On one hand, where the railway line of all the country is electrified, on the other hand, the news of the Ministry of Railways has come to the news today. Indian Railways to get new GE diesel locomotives by February-end under $2.5 billion ‘Make in India’ project. for Indian Railways, the national transporter will receive new diesel locomotives from GE Transportation on February 22. These GE diesel locomotives form part of an Indian Railways order of 1000 engines. Tweeting about the development, Nalin Jain, President & CEO, GE Transportation, Asia-Pacific said, “Beautiful picture of 6 production locomotives on way from Erie, US to India for the GE Marhowra project in India. First 2 locos already here, handover to Indian Railways on 22nd Feb. @GETRANSPORT @GEIndia @RailMinIndia”. Nothing really ground-breaking. They are just more fuel-efficient and clean compared to our existing fleet. And this will also reduce our dependency on a single manufacturer (in this case EMD, which works with DLW on all the WDP4D/WDG4D/WDG5 designs).
