* The way electrification have expanded, especially in last decade-there can be no way to retract. All the GQ routes and other important rail lines have either been electrified or are under electrification. like MGS-PNBE-GHY, MS-RMM/CAPE, MAS-SA-CBE-TVC/MAQ, BRC-ADI-JP-NDLS, BSL-ET-JBP-ALD etc.
* With most of the tracks saturated with heavy traffic, IR need to electrify tracks.
* IR has taken a very big decision to complete electrification of all BG tracks by 2022, totally based on the economic coonsiderations which the current RM and past RM appreciated well.

But technical and practical aspect too has to be considered. Most important is the replacement of all the D-locos by E locos by 2022 which currently appears impossible. The financial benefit of lower cost of electric traction can be reaped only if Elocos haul train in electrified sections, operating with D-locos on electrified sections shall be open invitation to the notorious cable thieves.
* To make full use of high power and high speed of electric locos, IR need to increase the axle load of the freight trains and the speed of pax trains in addition to increasing the train length i.e. increasing the number of wagons/ coaches, use of light weight 160/200kmph electric train sets is highly desirable.
* More practical solution is to complete the total electrification by the yr 2027/8 instead of 2022, so that availability of E locos for newly electrified sections can be ensured in future.
