SWR Reclassifies Stations Based o­n Passenger Usage

SWR the classification will move from A1, A, B, D etc. to non-Suburban groups NSG-1, 2, 3 etc. and halt stations viz HG-1, 2 etc. o­n South Western Railway, SBC (Bengaluru City) & YPR (Yesvantpur) belong to A1 Category (More than Rs.60 Cr. Annual earnings), 15 stations under ‘A’ Category (more than Rs.8 Cr. to less than 60 Cr. Annual earnings). Further 17 stations were classified as B, (more than Rs.4 Cr.upto to 8 Cr. Annual earnings) ,47 stations as D (between Rs. 60 lakhs and 4 Crores Annual earnings), 188 E category (less than Rs.60 lakhs Annual earnings) and 98 Halt Stations were in F category.Stations in top category (NSG-1) will be KSR Bengaluru followed by Yeshvantpur and Mysuru in NSG-2 have annual earning of Rs. 500 Cr. Plus and passengers above 20 million. Actual earing at KSR Bengaluru is now more than 600 Cr. Per annum and passengers handled is 25 Million. Yeshvantpur and Mysuru falls in second category with earning of more than 100 Cr. And passengers more than 10 Millions per annum. Based o­n the new classification,55stations out of total 367 stations of South Western Railway are getting upgraded including Mysuru, Bangarpet, Mandya, Nanjangud Town, Chamarajanagar, Channapatna, Kuppam,Malur, Ramanagaram, Whitefield, Tyakal, Harihar, Subramanya Road, Sagarajambagaru&Srirangapatna. In addition 40 halt stations have been upgraded where enhanced passenger amenities will be provided.
