Its nice to see IRI also gives the local name for many stations to help the visitors.
So I am surprised to see that MAQ and MAJN have the name Mangalore in brackets instead of Kudla.
Kudla is what the local Tulu people call it.

The local name is the name of the city as called by localites or something popular.
Like Chennai has Madras as local name in IRI. Its an old name. No one calls MAS as Madras Central, just Central. But still Madras is used.
Similarly Kudla is what the locals - Tuluvas refer the city as, and helps visitors in IRI search.

okay but Kudla or Kodial is not used as widely as Madras is used for Chennai. Also there are so many names for Mangalore inside not Kudla alone.
The name "Kudla" is VERY popular in Mangaluru. Almost nobody uses Mangaluru or Mangalore when they're communicating in Tulu language. So is "Kodial", used by the Konkani speaking populace.
Not inside Mangalore... outside Karnataka. I don't think everyone knows whether it's local tulu name is Kudla. Anyway the name has already been implemented in IRI so we can stop this discussion
That's the whole point - Its to help locals (who will also use IRI) that IRI has implemented the local name too.
For outsiders the main name is there.
IRI is serving both.
