It is said that to book a tatqal ticket on one particular day you have to book the tatkal ticket in that train on the day before at 10:00 am for ac classes.
For example, if i want to book a train ticket from MB - NDLS in the train #12429 that is starting from LKO and search the same in irctc website for 30th april under TATQAL quota on 28th April, i can see booking available at 6:30 pm.

Booking of tatkal opens 24 hours prior to the originating station and not your station.
For example.. Lucknow mail reaches your station at 1 AM morning of Monday, but it departs at 23:30 PM of Sunday, so you shall have to get the booking done on Saturday itself as the train is starting on Sunday.

For journey between MB-NDLS on 1st May, with booking station as LKO and boarding point as MB, you need to book for the train that leaves LKO on 30th Apr. So the booking that you did is correct.
The above explanation is for normal booking. In case you are booking under Tatkal quota, the bookings for 30th Apr dep from LKO will open on 29th Apr morning.
Tatkal booking starts a day before the departure of the train from its source and for intermediate stations also at the same time as that of the source only. Let me give you a simple example. Suppose I am boarding 12657 Mail from KPD at 12:05 AM on 1st May and deboarding at SBC on 1st May. But 12657 would have started from MAS the previous day itself at 11:15 PM on 30th April. So Tatkal bookings open on 29th itself for 30th departure from MAS and subsequent halts which come on the next day(on May 1) in the same run (30th departure).
