They are the highest powered ALCOs at 3600HP. They were an upgraded WDM3D design. Only 4 were made and all 4 are homed at Gooty (I don't know if any of them have been converted back to WDM3D). They also have High Adhesion - High speed bogies (HAHS) for hauling heavy freights at higher speeds.
11287 has a unique design with a slanted hood.
This was also the last mainline ALCO class manufactured. After this DLW moved completely to EMDs.
