Reasons:
1. Shortage.
2. Non-requirement - less stoppage & end-to-end motor doesnt affect pick-up much, so dont require better acceleration & extra power.
Nw plz dont compare with other DRNT & their req, as GZB is aving larger fleet of WAP 5/7

do wap 4 & wap 7 engines generate same speed?i'm not sure.i think wap 7s are faster so travel time from hwh to igatpuri could have been shortened.
any idea why no train in SE RLY use wap 7?

Some points:
1. WAP-4 & WAP-5/7 or every LOCO in India (WDM & WDP) too are running @ restricted speed against their individual capacity.
2. WAP-4 & WAP5/7 are equipped to haul 24 coach train @ MPS.
3. WAP 5/7 enjoys better acceleration (pick-up), even in increased AC Coaches!!! If train is running with 24 Coach, with 8-10 AC Coaches but no Generator van,

4. WAP-5 is with 3 gear & have capacity to get enhanced to 180 KMPH MPS.

1. I would like to add, i have travelled n normal SUP with WAP-5 & Rajdhani with WAP-4 in same route & approx same span of time!!!
2. Conjection & Management runs train, not LOCO!!!
3. AVG Speed isnt above 93 (SHTB/RAJ), 55-80 (SUPERFAST), so even WAP-35 cant do any better!!
4. But yeah, WAP-5/7 looks cute!!!!!

Mumbai suburban division is still under DC traction . So unless the the entire Mumbai section is energised as AC, WAP series locos cannot be used here.
hence WCAM x series locos haul the train till Igatpuri in down direction and from Igatpuri in Up direction.
