Sorry to say sir but nothing much can be done except seeing you money for mas - mdu sector going in vain. Since it is not a blank paper ticket where you can claim refund if you miss the second train due to late running of connecting train. Pretty strict chain you have chosen for your journey.

12270 is a very inconsistent train. Sometimes it runs perfect and sometimes it gets late.Though seeing the trend of past 1 month this should reach chennai before Mdu Duronto departs though may require quick change of platforms. Hope you hav a comfortable journey and catch your connecting train to Madurai easily. Happy Journey in advance.

You can book backup on Rockfort from MS to TPJ. From there proceed to MDU in TVC Intercity from TPJ. If it seems like your train will arrive on time in MAS, you can cancel the ticket before the charting is done

But for that he has to go from Central to Egmore which will also take some time.
If duronto is delayed then he can take a night volvo bus to madurai. All buses reach early morning.
But somebody has to help. May be there is a help desk in central.
