There is a Paid AC Lounge at PF 3(just beside the subway). The rate of stay is Rs 20 for 1 hour per person. If you have an UP train to catch(going to BBS, MAS, Mumbai etc), you can stay in this lounge for sometime. You can also stay here if you are catching a down train but be careful as down trains usually leaves from PF 7-8. This lounge is spacious and the toilets and bathrooms are also quite clean.

At night time i.e 8pm-12am which is the prime time for Platform 1 and 3, this lounge becomes little crowded with all kinds of passengers with their heavy luggage. Travellers of trains like Azad hind, Mumbai Mail, Jnaneswari/Samarsata, hwh-adi express wait in this lounge.

Yes. The same happens when trains like Gitanjali, Coromandel, Jan Shatabdi arrive during the afternoon. Since this lounge is in a prime spot in between platform 1 and 3(in an around this all the UP trains arrive), this lounge is quite popular. Also, this place has a clean bathroom and so many people take a bath here. Maybe these are the reasons why it becomes crowded, much more than the first class waiting room.

The crowded feel is not due to travellers, but due to their bulky trolleys and luggage. Specially travellers travelling to Mumbai and west side. They keep all their luggage throughout the floor, and getting space to walk is very difficult.

Agreed. Some passengers do carry huge amounts of luggage. But I think that could stop now that railways has put a limit of the weight of the luggage carried.
