system of train that caters to the needs of medium distance inter-city passengers. Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit running over IR at present is propelled by conventional DC traction system. ICF has now rolled out eight car MEMU train set for the first time with on board state-of-the-art indigenous 3-phase AC propulsion system and stainless steel body. The traction system is energy efficient and provides improved acceleration and braking performance and are therefore faster compared to the conventional locomotive hauled passenger train services.

The rake formation of this MEMU consists of 8 coaches, viz. 2 Driving Motor Coaches (DMC) at both ends with a seating capacity of 55 passengers and standing capacity of 171 passengers (total 226 passengers) in each coach & 6 Trailer Coaches (TC) with a seating capacity of 84 passengers and standing capacity of 241 (total 325 passengers) in each coach. Thus, the total carrying capacity of this MEMU rake is 2402 passengers.

The maximum speed of the new MEMU rake is 110 Kmph

TECHNICAL:
It is operated on 25 kv AC Overhead Traction and it has 3 Phase on-board indigenous electric traction system, supported by Regenerative braking system to save up to 35% energy. It is manufactured with Stainless Steel coach body and has aerodynamically shaped stainless steel front end nose for reduced air resistance, thereby saving in energy. Ergonomic FRP drive desk would give a better view and easy operation. Air suspension monitoring system for jerk free journey and the Air Conditioned driver cabin will ensure driver’s comfort.

PASSENGER AMENITIES:
Stainless steel slip free flooring for durable and safety travel, bench type cushioned seats for comfortable journey, wider vestibules between coaches for safe and easy inter-coach travel, lightweight aluminium double leaf sliding doors for easy entry and exit of passengers, bogies with air spring in secondary suspension for better ride comfort, stainless steel hand holds and stainless steel modular toilets with bio-retention for durability and preventing spillage on tracks, LED lighting for better lumination and energy conservation, Stainless steel luggage rake, Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) interiors for better aesthetics, cushioned seats, are a few highlights of the new MEMU rake.

FACILITIES:
The new MEMU rake has CCTV facility for enhanced passenger safety, particularly for women passengers, GPS based Passenger Information System (PIS) & Passenger Address System (PAS) for train related information and FRP interior panels to give a pleasing aesthetic view, in all coaches.

The first 3 phase MEMU rake was flagged off today (29.06.2018) from the Furnishing Division of ICF, by a senior most staff of Furnishing Division, in the presence of Sri M. Dasarathy, former Member/Mechanical, Railway Board, and Smt Vijaya Kanth, former Financial Commissioner/Railway Board, ICF team of officers and staff. Since the coachset has been allotted by Railway Board to South East Central Railway (SECR), Bilaspur, Sri Govind Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, SECR, participated in the function on behalf of SECR.
