Few things I know, which might be helpful.
-
The main bus stand is at a walkable distance from the railway station.
I have done so many times.
But on those occasions when you

are tired or have many luggages, then you can use the share autos that are waiting near the South entrance (Entry no. 5, if I am not wrong). This entrance is on the south end of PF 1 - See last pic.
They charged me Rs. 10.

At the bus stand I saw this bus "Durga Divya Radham", which was exclusively for those visiting the Kanaka Durga Temple. Also it does go via other places too. I just enquired for the temple and he said it is Rs. 10.
Nicely modelled bus, have seen such buses at Kollegal for going to M. M Hills temple.

The bus stand itself is a delight for bus fans (many railfans are bus fans too:)).
If you are a bus fan, then definitely you need to see this bus stand and spend some time.

A very clean and well maintained huge bus stand in the middle of the city. Such huge bus stands in the middle of the city is rare nowadays because the bus stand becomes too small to take in all the buses as the city and its populace grows, or is encroached upon. So, many of the new bus stands are being built away from the center.
Majestic used to be one such mammoth, till Metro swallowed up the 2 depots and half the bus stand.
Few bus stands like this one stands out for various reasons other than the size.
- You can see various destination buses here. For a bus fan that's a delight. But it has come down drastically because the Express buses have been replaced by luxury buses and many services have been stopped.
- There used to be an old bus (with a front driver cabin and engine) stationed here for tourist attraction, but not to be seen now. They said its gone to the depot for repair or something. Hope it comes back.
- This bus stand I remember as back as 2005-06 had the concept of providing cold clean drinking water if one had a bottle, for just a little amount of money. This was a boon for those not wanting to buy a new bottle. IR in the recent years started the same thing with similar water kiosks on PFs.
- The hotels inside the bus stand has a good range of tasty food at reasonable rates.
- There are other facilities too like AC waiting room etc..
