Trivandrum Rajdhani Trip - Part 2 (August 1995) : Part 2 presents the journey from Bina onwards... After enjoying the Barkhera-Budhni Ghat section, I was looking forward to the Itarsi skip. However, I found out the train has a technical halt there. In compensation, I was rewarded with a sweet encounter with the WAP1-hauled Tamilnadu Exp; most coaches still had the cream-brown livery.
Be sure to enjoy the following:
- Crossing the double-headed Sabarmati Exp. at Bina
-

Meeting the WAM4-hauled Dakshin Exp. at Bhopal
- Snaking through the Barkhera-Budni Ghat section
- Crossing the Narmada river
- Meeting the Tamilnadu Exp. at Itarsi
- Meeting the Kerala Exp. at Metpanjra
- Meeting the Mangala Exp. at Nagpur
- Arriving at Balharshah
- Skipping Bina, Ganj Basoda, Vidisha, Amla

TVC Raj only had halts at ED, PGT and ERN. CBE was bypassed and there were no halts at SA, KPD either.
The schedule in 1995 was as follows: (Haven't included halts between NZM-MAS)
2432 NZM-TVC Raj:
NZM- 9:30, (Day 2) MAS- 15:35/16:00, ED- 21:20/21:30, PGT- 23:45/23:47, ERN- 2:20/2:30, TVC- 6:25
2431
...
TVC-NZM Raj:
TVC- 20:00, ERN- 23:55/00:05, PGT- 2:33/2:35, ED- 4:55/5:05, MAS- 10:35/11:00, (Day 2) NZM- 16:30

Sir, this is quite wonderful. I had no idea BPL-ET was doubled as early as 1995. I was wishing I'd be able to catch a glimpse of the Amla-Nagpur section, but it seems like night had fallen by then!

It's quite pleasantly surprising to see how similar so many of the features are. For instance, seeing the still-very-much-the-same approach to Itarsi juxtaposed against the older liveries of coaches and locomotives.

Going from the side to side swing, it seems that the parts of the track (at least the section in Budni ghat) was still using fishplated, short welded rail at the time, though it's hard to be certain. One thing that caught my eye were those tankers lying by the trackside right before the Narmada bridge - remnants of some derailing?

Thanks for sharing this gem from the past!
