Flagged off as Rajkot-Ahmedabad intercity express on November 19th, 1986. The inaugural run was flagged off at Than Road station by Sri Ramjibhai, a Sr. Gangman of Rajkot division.
After the gauge conversion of the the route till Jamnagar, it was extended to Jamnagar on 6 days a week, terminating at Rajkot on the one remaining day.
