Shalimar Station of South Eastern Railway has been provided with free Wi Fi facility from today (11.1.19). There is a rising trend of Wi Fi usage among the passengers at different stations of S E Railway. Keeping this in view, nine more stations under SER’s jurisdiction will be covered with free Wi Fi connectivity within the current financial year (2018-19). The stations are Chakulia, Haldia, Tamluk, Dantan, Midnapur, Mecheda, Santragachi, Bagnan and Panskura.
As a part of Government’s Digital India initiatives, South Eastern Railway has so far commissioned Wi-Fi services at 14(fourteen) Stations enabling about lakhs of rail passengers to log o¬n to the free internet facility. Apart from Shalimar, the 13 SER stations which are already equipped with Wi-Fi facility are Kharagpur, Ranchi, Digha, Purulia, Hatia, Bokaro, Tatanagar, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Mahalimarup, Barabamboo and Tiruldih.
Over Indian Railways, altogether 746 railway stations have been provided with Wi-Fi facility which has proved very useful to the general public.
