and what about the fare??I hear that Rajdhani is losing out to low cost airlines.
it will lose to Low cost airlines coz a 3A Rajdhani ticket is 2K and when booked a mth in advance during peak and anytime during off peak a ticket in a low cost airline is between 2.5K to 3K. So effectively u r paying arounnd Rs 500 to 1K more to save 26 hrs(more than a day) 28 hrs vs 2.5 hrs journey time.
All other things remain same
Travel Time to Source Station or Airport is arnd 1-2 hrs

There are other factors in favour of trains.
1. 99% of train delays are Arrival delays, NOT departure delays. So, usually, when a train is late, you are in the cozy AC coach, sleeping, reading a book, etc. 99% of flight delays are Departure delays (after a plane takes off, it reaches exactly 2.5 hrs later, and there are no traffic problems in the sky). Because of this, flight delays result in waiting time in airports, which is definitely not comfortable.

some other points in favour of trains:
1. you have to reach airport 1-2 hours before flight departure. Waiting in the security and check-in lines are excruciating. On the other hand, you can reach the station 5 minutes before train departure. No ticketing nonsense.
2. Travel time to airport is definitely not the same as travel time to a railway station, since stations are usually located in the middle of the city. Not only that, you will be charged very highly for travel to airport - all the auto/taxi drivers make a lot...

I do agree with you on point 1. But point 2 isn't accepted as it depends on the individual whether one is too tired after a 2-3 hr flight or fresh enough to do a day's work. I travel a lot as a part of my work and my routine is often - catch an early morning flight from BLR-DEL, attend a few meetings and catch an evening flight back to BLR (economy). I have never felt tired after this schedule which is pretty regular.
