My Guess is the following;
There are very few passengers who travel uptil MAO. This train is almost empty beyond SWV not more than 30-40 sometimes less in an 18 coach train.

rake goes to MAO primarily for overnight cleaning purposes and minor maintainance checks.
Then why not mark 50105 and 50107 as a single train?
See this passenger train runs on an average 2-3 hours late. It gets worse during Monsoons time table.
So if the train is very late say 7-8 hours late then the railways can cancel 50107 for the day without much trouble. 50105 will still complete it's entire journey and depart as 50106 next day on time.
This is what I felt was the most like cause for seperate numbering.
Anyways this passenger service was started before they completed the Pernem Tunnel.
Even Matsyagandha Express does something similar
It leaves as 16347 TVC-MAQ express then leaves as 12620 MAQ-LTT Matsyagandha Exp
return works out similarly with 12619 and 16348
they dont allow direct LTT-TVC booking even though the rake travels this route.
