I say that running Inaugural Special trains is a wastage of resources. The so called leaders, who can't attend at the time of departure of the train, arrive at the time as per their wish and make the people deprived of the 1st run at the right time!!

Its publicity or promotion of train too ,how do common man know if u silently introduce in press release or papers ,its called x factor
Trains have been something that connected people in a region to the leaders(you can see MPs discuss/demand for a passenger in parliament) in olden days...now a days it's just another means of transportation..but they're still carrying out these practices in days where news comes through social media not front page of a newspaper...That being said I don't wish to side on the opposite end where railway officials plan intelligently special trains without any demand/justification in the name of clearing "extra rush"
It is a good thing to have an inaugural special, as it is an opportunity to advertise the train.
But the inauguration should not be so dependent on the politicians. In the past, inaugurations of many important trains were done by senior railway staff, like senior Loco Pilots and other staff. The Howrah Rajdhani, the first train of it's kind and easily the first premium , high speed train introduced after independence, was flagged off by the oldest points-man working at Howrah station.
