IRCTC never cited railway's poor economic health in resuming the ticket booking charges. It has exclusively maintained that the charges are necessary for Operation and Maintenance of its servers.
IRCTC is always investing in railways by various means through various base kitchens, RO water vending machines, etc. Most glamorous would be Tejas exp. between Lucknow and Delhi.

Irctc not cited but supporters of this charges cited.
For past two years it was not irctc which was bearing the service charge subsidy given to people but the govt which was paying to irctc for that rebate and as compensation the whole online reservation wing work of CRIS was transfered to irctc.
From now on loss of irctc is not a public loss but its 'investors' lost.

FYI, CRIS is railways. IRCTC is independent: has its own staff, servers, software and many other things related to only railways. CRIS was never transferred to IRCTC, and never will be. If you can independently verify, CRIS has more (AND crucial) apps for the crew lobby of railways, not the traveling people. And none for IRCTC. Pls stop fake news.
BTW, if IRCTC makes loss, biggest stakeholder is railways. General public/investors form a minor part of the shareholding, It is extremely unlikely that IRCTC will ever make any loss since it now doesn't follow railways' employment policy, but will continue to work as a corporate entity.

Also take note that yesterday govt has reduced its share in IRCTC by 12.5% and department of disinvestment has indicated further sale of shares in coming months.
