As most of the part of this section is passing through National Park core zone, doubling will cause irreparable loss to local eco system. Haridwar already made scape goat of spiritual tourism and turned to dust, majority of trains should be terminated there only.
I agree with you. Haridwar Dehradun section should have limited trains most of the train should be terminated at haridwar.
I think there could be a new railway line b/w SRE and DDN via chutmalpur(no railway line presently) and join that track to main line from HW nearby DDN . BCOZ there is no place available in the city for new railway line. While in UP area, there are open lands and there is a short strech of NATIONAL PARK. If it could happen, then the time travel between DDN and SRE could be decreased to 1 hr, presently it is 2.5-3 hrs(for Shatabdi) and 3-5hrs for SFs and Mail/Express trains..

It is not imaginary.
There was a talk of this route in rail budget 2018.

I feel single line beyond Haridwar is okay as there is lack of space and as Doon is a terminating station with still not such long platforms, I feel single line is doing well..no need to add one more line. There is no rush of goods train here then trains can easily made cross at Harrawala Doiwala Raiwala etc so why to invest crores of money that's not going to give returns second why to disturb our wild life. Rail Electrification work is also against forest basic rules after Haridwar IR could have used WDP4D locos to fetch trains with e locos to Doon but then that's another issue.
