The new double line between Harippad and Ambalappuzha on the Kayankulam-Ernakulam section via Alappuzha has been commissioned and trains have started passing through it.
But the old line is temporarily closed due to strengthening works and underpass construction so as to increase its maximum permissible speed.
The MPS for the new line is 80 Kph.
