uniqueness of melon is that it contains a phyto-component called "Quarantine", which has a confirmed hypoglycemic effect; an insulin-like compound known as polypeptide P, proposed as an insulin replacement for people with diabetes mellitus.

Bitter gourd also contains anthelmintic compounds used to treat gastrointestinal ailments. The juice kills the parasitic worms growing inside our body and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Pumpkin seeds protect you from heart problems by burning unwanted fat and unclogging arteries and has anti-cancer properties. There are two compounds in bitter gourd: a-eleostearic acid, which is found in the seed, and 15, 16-dihydroxy-a-eleostearic acid, which blocks cancer cells and is a good remedy for leukemia and anemia.

But you should not abuse it, there may be mild abdominal pain or diarrhea. Diabetics taking hypoglycemic drugs should control their medication dosage if they consume bitter melon on a regular basis. Pregnant women should avoid an abundance of bitter gourd or gourd juice, as stimulation of the uterus is possible, which can lead to premature birth.
