For IR the lockdown seems to have been a mixed blessing. Officials have claimed that the sparse traffic has enabled them to undertake maintenance functions on tracks, which would have otherwise taken 2 years to do. If this be true, the results should ideally be reflected in a lower accident rate in the coming years after restoration of normalcy. After all, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating.

Yes, RDB. Also the concept of "clone" trains to clear long waiting lists is being touted as an ORIGINAL idea. But if I remember right, this idea was propagated almost a decade ago by the then MOR, Mr.Dinesh Trivedi, in his budget speech.
