For IR the lockdown seems to have been a mixed blessing. Officials have claimed that the sparse traffic has enabled them to undertake maintenance functions on tracks, which would have otherwise taken 2 years to do. If this be true, the results should ideally be reflected in a lower accident rate in the coming years after restoration of normalcy. After all, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating.

Certainly, on all the fronts you have mentioned. However, of particular satisfaction to me is the extension of rail services to Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal etc with Meghalaya to follow suit. There has been concrete steps in that direction progressing much beyond mere speeches and foundation stones/ Did we a decade ago hear of places like Agartala, Sombrom and Naharlagun on IR's map ?
