500 trains, 10,000 stops could go in ‘reimagined’ Indian Railways post-Covid timetable (TIE Article)

◾IR expects to increase their annual earnings by more than Rs 1,500 crore through this new zero-based TT
◾Some 500 regular trains will be discontinued and 10,000 stops
◾15%

more freight trains
◾Avg Pax Train Speed Expected to increase by around 10%
◾Trains with less than 50% occupancy on average in a year will not find any place in the network. If needed such trains will be merged with other, more popular trains.
◾Long-distance trains will ideally not have stops within 200 km of each other, unless there is a major city
◾All passenger trains will run on a “hub-and-spoke model”.
◾The “hubs” will be cities with a population of a million or more, where all long-distance trains will terminate
◾Smaller places will be linked to the hubs through connecting trains
◾Major tourist destinations and pilgrimage centres will be classified as hubs
◾ rationalisation of the use of the rolling. Trains will have either 22 or 24 ICF coaches
◾The timetable also envisages use of 18-coach overnight trains

One version that I am hearing is that outstation/long dist trains may only stop at Dist HQ or major stations and smaller stops with lesser patronage for these trains will be withdrawn. For local intra state/intra-dist there could be a possibility to run more intercity/passenger kinds of trains. Will have to wait & watch. Just wondering in a place like Bangalore, what happens to trains with stoppages at BAND, CRLM, Yelahanka, WFD or maybe KJM. It provided a good option for spreading the crowd from the main stations. Will have to wait and see how this is done?
