Looking at the present condition of Indian Railway. Separate Railway Budget is stopped. Now from last many years New trains are given mainly to Election bound States, specially to states where Government thinks they have chances of winning the election, they give New trains. If we remember last year there was Orissa state elections help where our Central government had very very less chances of winning. If i remember correctly, hardly any new train was given to Orissa state before election. Only Gondwana exp got extended till Sambalpur but that was also not Daily.

caotic situation in IR, and huge scarcity of trains. Passengers would have cried for new trains whereas RB would have not given new trains instead either Special fare special trains would used to run with more fares or IRCTC trains with more fare AC coaches or Private trains with high fare would have runned and middle class and poor people would have suffered. Also small stations stoppages would have been removed and many trains would have been cancelled.
I think it was good that earlier there were separate railway Budget and new trains were given for common poor middle class passengers. Otherwise God knows what would have happened. Although now trying to cancel many existing trains in new so called ZBTT and remove stoppages of many trains.

You have pointed out the correct things. Rail was used for vote politics for decades. Nothing new about it. But now-a-days, the central Govt is doing dirty things to it as you mentioned. Doing infrastructural development increased in recent years, no doubt. But passenger service, revenue does not improved. Even after doing privatization, initially rail will earn a good revenue from the private players. In long term, private player will withdraw their service because they don't want to be part of politics in place of profit. Finger crossed.

Problem is that with Railway budget, each MP demanded train for their area. Tracks got saturated without much infrastructure improvement. Now you see many tracks are getting upgraded to 130kph. This should have happened decades ago. I don't think many viable trains are being cancelled. Some trains like Toofan deserve to be cancelled. Odisha govt is ally of Centre. So if demand is there, I'm sure IR will start operating more services. Maybe the MPs from Odisha have not been active enough to demand trains from RM?

Yes i agree earlier each MP demanded train for their area, i will say it was good that earlier each MP demanded a new train from their area and trains were given , otherwise think as per present situation, if those trains were not given and this present procedure of giving trains on to election winning possibility states were given then there would have been a huge scarcity of trains for poor and middle class people. Yes i agree some useless trains were given at that time but that trend is still going on now say there r many useless political trains are given now also and see there r so many loss running Humsafar trains given on political grounds. getting removed, trains getting Cancelled, passenger trains are being converted to Express without speedup just for earning more money, private trains comming up with high fares, special trains are running with high fares but 0 extra facilities and unpunctual special trains, new trains are given to election states and that too to those states where Central government thinks they have high chances of winning, where government sees Profit that is Okay orelse those r either Closed or Sold to Private, etc all these r against poor and middle class common man. So i now think earlier MP's did good job to get trains for their area otherwise today looking at the huge population of passengers who travel in IR there would have been a huge huge scarcity of trains. But i agree this government is doing good job in infrastructure development work in IR. Good work done now in fast Railway Electrification, Doubling, Trippling work is fast.
