You are kind of wrong. A nation is built by a feeling of loyalty towards your nation rather than a dynasty or some king.
British Raj was also based on loyalty towards the British monarch and British kingdom none of which had anything to do with the identity of India.
So if you consider Mauryans, Guptas and Cholans as dynasties so British was also like that.

identity of India as a nation has come from 1947 from that logic and if by uniting the mainland than it was created in 300BCE under Mauryans who occupied 5/3rd size of territory than current India and had Indian Subcontinent either under direct control or under tributes(Kamarupa and Tamil Kingdoms).
