Established as an head quarter of Great Indian Peninsular Railways on 1st January, 1889. Kanpur and Gwalior Route were constructed between 1878-1881. and Jhansi-Manikpur in 1889. Jhansi Division earlier extended from Tughalakabad to Itarsi. Today is an important junction in Indian Railways.
