Trans-Siberian highway is the longest railway in the world. The great Siberian Way, connecting Moscow to Vladivostok, has 9298 kilometers long, crosses 8 time zones, passes through 87 cities and settlements and crosses 16 rivers, including Volga.
(Electrification began in 1929, but wasn't completed until 2002)

No. As majority of track would be under tunnel. So no aesthetics.
