I also hate DEMU/MEMU for 50+ kms distance

Its a good concept. But it doesn't mean that all trains must be converted. Overnight long-distance trains are good in with Locos. This concept is good for short time travels maybe till 6 hours and day travel. It has better acceleration and consumes low power and saves time in changing locos or reversing.
