Konkan Railway Project was nothing special. It was just 132.2 kms & 18 tunnels more than Dandakaranya Railway Project. Starting from km 74.8 at Roha & ending at Km 832.00 at Mangaluru (Kankanadi) Konkan Railway Project was 757.2 kms long with 150+ tunnels & 216+ bridges. It took 8 yrs from 1990-98 to construct Konkan Railway. Now coming to Dandakaranya Railway Project, this project launched at the 5 yrs Plan from 1956-60. The Dandakaranya Railway Project was 625 kms long connecting Kirandul via Koraput with Rayagada in Odisha & Kothavalsa near Vishakapatnam. It took nearly 16 yrs to complete the project comprising of 132+ tunnels & 196+ bridges. Insurgency in the Dandakaranya region made this project a long one. Atleast 1000 workers died constructing Dandakaranya Railway Project. But Konkan Railway Project got all attention & importance.

Konkan rail is not hyped at all, but this is also the fact that KK line and Koraput-Rayagada is some how under rated. In fact some section of IR is more beautiful and challenging like Lamding-Badarpur section, I feel thats more beautiful than Konkan Railway. But that's my perception only not to hurt any one.
