All depends upon convenience and destination.
I have traveled in all modes of transport between Pune and Mumbai except a Boat 😂 (well, if you count out Versova Madh Island Jetty 😂)
For trains I have to wait for specific timings and reach Pune Junction in center of City.
Pune is a Big place, not everyone has the time to waste like that....

And train is only convenient for certain places as People are not entirely allowed on Local Trains in Mumbai yet.
So Bus comes as a viable option. People take taxis as well.
For trains I'd have to plan in advance.
I can get out of my house RIGHT NOW and be sure about getting an AC bus within next 30 minutes to Mumbai.
His point is about the condition of Road and Buses. Pune Mumbai doesn't have that issue.
Preference might depend upon Person but "Dhakke khana" is not an issue especially with buses.
When one takes into account the undergoing Metro construction and traffic around Pune Station. Dhakke khana will be more common while taking a train rather than taking a Bus.

I took a Vistadome Trip in Deccan Queen at the end of August.
Rode on my Activa to Mumbai at the start of September.
And took a bus trip just last week in Shivneri.

it totally depends upon person to person, reaching station is a tedious process for most people in Pune. Especially when you have to reach for Specific timings of trains rather than going to a bus station and simply catching a bus whenever you like.
Unless and until I'm specifically going to South Mumbai (Bombay High Court), I'm not looking at trains. Especially nowadays when most people aren't freely allowed on Mumbai Locals
