A strange incident happened on Sunday 10th Oct 2021 when I was going to board 02022. At Tatanagar, it was being announced that 02221 PUNE HWH Duronto will arrive at 4:40 pm (late) at PF 4. Also, at the same time, it was being announced that 02022 BBN HWH Janshatabdi will arrive at 4:42 pm, PF 4. Moreover, at TATA outer, BBN Janshatabdi was given clearance first and PUNE Duronto was held in spite of PF 5 being empty. We departed right time and Duronto arrived at 5:05 pm or 5:10 pm (I don't remember exactly). All the way till Howrah, Duronto was trailing behind Jan Shatabdi. And I kept tracking Duronto waiting for a capture...

But, wasn't Duronto running slight late? In your case, a slightly late running Duronto was made to trail an on-time running Jan Shatabdi.

Jan shatabdi is also a very high priority train.. I have seen Patna Jan shatabdi overtaken 12306 in past.
Yes, Duronto was late which could have been covered till HWH if given entry before Janshatabdi. But, Janshatabdi was given clearance even though it could cover its delay as it has around 10-15 minutes slack time too
With Jan shatabdi , duronto and some of these trains, have many times observed, they somehow get trolled, delayed between CKP-Tata even though they are mostly on time till CKP. Rarely I have seen on time arrival/before time arrival at Tata even though PF is vacant.
