From a very long time , Kankanadi ( now MAJN) was a station where all trains via KR used to cross. Somehow quite surprised that even after so many years connectivity is still a challenge. From future point of view this will become a important junction with station redevelopment , more pit lines coming up and so on. Its high time that local authorities improve connecivity from these places
If SR PGT is really interested, they would have developed MAJN. No train is starting from MAJN towards Kerala, so they felt no need to develop MAJN. If one Madras train and one TVC train is shifted to MAJN, they will think about it.
Here is where neglect of Mangalore by SR gets noticed. There is no place for daytime Bangalore train, but plenty available for 5 TVC, 4 MAS and one CBE train!!

Mangalore-Bangalore line via Sakleshpur is a single track withh speed restrictions. Hence travel time is long as compared to road travel.This is the main reason for lack of patronage. The SWR line from Hassan to Mangalore needs to be strengthened to increase the speed as in case of ghat sections in KRCL
Metre gauge era had more trains than today. Left as MG, would have benefited
