Which loco cost more in terms of start up. Diesel or Elec? I saw many places diesel loco is widely used as shunter.

The amount of diesel consumed in switching the loco off and then again turning it up is a lot more than keeping the loco on for some 10-12 hours.
for that reason, We can see that diesel locos are kept on instead on turning it off.
