Railway falls other essential rights of Indian people. Railways are Lifeline to the nation. But the way IR is becoming money minded, people affording railways will come down drastically. Only 20% of our population will be eligible for affording Railway journey in coming 5-10 yrs. Rest will be Bhikhari.
Why doomsday? Already India has over population. It's kind of good in some way. Actually problem with IR is that its building too many unnecessary railway lines and horrible management. Recently FEDL of ADI - Delhi via JP route is a great example, where they are restricting speed and running trains with Diesel inspite of electrification. They are also doing FEDL for lines where barely 4-5 express trains run daily. Naturally to compensate, it will add more ACs, increase fares. etc
Passenger trains renamed Express... and most Express trains classified as Superfast. It is now rare to find a non-SF express on most stretches. It used to be that SF used to be rare. I recall when SER had a handful of trains classified as SF: Gitanjali, Coromondel, 1dn/2up Mail (now 12809/12810) and a few others.
Now, the roles are reversed. IR hasn't brought back Kurla-Shalimar Express back either.
