1. The distance of Kanyakumari to Pune is 1950km and round trip is 3900 km fit for LHB rake operation limit of 4000km round trip for PM.
2. If they run to Mumbai it requires another rake and need to do SM at Mumbai or change destination to LTT which CR wants to avoid taking maintainance and freeup of slot from Pune to Kalyan to allow other trains.
3. They are alternative trains from Kerala to Mumbai via KR and Coimbatore to LTT so this is limited Pune. Residents of Pune Keralities...

Round trip for LHB PM is 4500km not 4000km. Trains like GT, TN do not undergo SM at NDLS after LHBfication. JJ can be easily extended to PNVL if required.
With the existing TT if extended to Mumbai might have a odd time of arrival at Mumbai, around 2am & then will have to be stabled for almost 18 hrs... I don't think CR will allow. In any case most of the non CR trains have started having quick turnaround time in Mumbai ( example NCJ/ TVC CSMT group of trains)
There can be one more reason that
Already Mumbai CSMT have 16339/40 and 16351/52 as well. As NCJ is about 15 kms from CAPE here so this can also be a somewhat reason.
