why is that? why are most intercity trains hauled by wcam locos?
I don't know for sure. Maybe long distance trains are getting wap4/5/7 and wdp4, or maybe due to other reasons. But, on many occasions I have seen 11009/12123/11007 getting hauled by Wap4 & Wap7 and WDP4D too.

Probably supply, with WAPs being reserved for longer routes. WCAMs do fine with slower speed limits in these sections also, and have push-pull assistance through ghats. Now that DQ may see max speed above 110 with LHB (supposed to be 120 operational), it will get WAP7 (or 5 if they have them around).
