This type incident once happen to me, I have booked confirm ticket before 2 months from journey date and when chart prepared message came from IRCTC I found my confirm seats are changed to RAC. I am thinking what is this hell, trains originating & my boarding station are same so I reach prior 1 hour from departure of train and went to deputy station superintendent and tell to them and they said your train has a damaged coach (which is allotted to me) while inspecting so that coach was remove and no other extra coach present so that coach's passengers adjusted on other coaches with RAC and some went to WL. And, you are lucky your tickets gone to RAC not WL.
With me only, way back in 2013 - #12960 - BHUJ to BVI - 3AC - RAC to Waiting.
