they deserve 12 coaches. no express trains for them. and alarming rush all day long in canning/diamond harbour/namkhana/lakshmikantapur locals...i always feel that gangasagar express could be extended to namkhana. it has somewhat siding for extra rake. space for extension of station/lines. timings of ganga sagar at sealdah gives it enough buffer to return from namkhana. this will also give south sealdah section their only m/e. the only hinderance~huge emu traffic in that section...
and add to it the single line problem. and stations ater LKPR do not have platforms for 12 coaches.
well for terminal facility, a lot has to be done. no water filling facility in coaches...no reversal facilities...no route relay interlocking cabins...insufficient platform length as you have rightly mentioned...but still we have seen special express trains running to namkhana during ganga sagar mela. so it can still be tried once weekly as a pilot project...if possible as a special...
no harm in doing that as intermediate stations will not act as stoppages for gangasagar. NMKA has longer platforms and if anyway short it can be extended as lot of space is there. moreover in NMKA there are lot of space for building reversal facilites, water filling, RRI etc.
