Yesterday the 16723 Ananthapuri overtook 12642 Thirukkural express at Nungambakkam in Chennai city. Thirukkural was on the down line while Ananthapuri overtook it from the up line.

I am sorry for the late reply. Overtakes in Chennai Egmore- Tambaram- Egmore sections are not new. Almost daily fast trains overtake the expresses or sometimes expresses overtake fast locals bound for Chennai Beach near Chetpet regularly. In this case the Thirukkural was late by 1 hour, so Ananthapuri overtook it from the up line.
Exactly Siddharth, what you guessed is right. The Ananthapuri was sent in the opposite line.
Oh ok!! so anantapuri went on opposite up line(Entering MS) and overtook Tirukkural is it-how was the opposite lien so empty-anyway those things left to controllers
At that point of time the opposite line was empty only and also the Thirukkural was stopped at Nungambakkam after the overtake and the Ananthapuri took the down line at Kodamabkkam where crossing is possible, so the up line was also clear after Kodambakkam.
