it actually North and South Direction ... but the lines and platforms are segregated, trains can operate just like metro system .. there is one more direction via Sadarbajar towards Old Delhi ... but that is only use by Local trains now... without criss crossing ... there can be 5 departures from NDLS simultaneously .. if they are planned optimally ! although practically it becomes different due to lot of criss cross & coaching and engine yard depot movements happening simultaneously !
