He is the person who started the downfall of IR by not increasing fares for 5 years. Earlier, every rail budget fare increase was around 2-3% which was sustainable. Because of his fare policy, later continued by Mamata after him, we have to deal with all these special fare schemes which are nothing but backdoor fare increase by IR. GR was a good initiative but again it wasn't sustainable at that fare. Also he was the first RM who proposed a bullet train in his budget but obviously, it was intended to be hawabaazi. Now that bullet train is actually being implemented but not by him, he is upset with the project.
