By road, Miraj jn to Sangli city is 15 to 20 km. This is just change of terminal to Sangli as it is the main station of the city. As the train used to lie at Miraj for 3 hours 10 minutes and they were unable to accomodate other trains coming from Kolhapur and Hubli due to lack of platform at Miraj, this train has been extended upto Sangli. Besides this, it will help CR to start some more trains from Miraj jn in this timeslot of 3 hours. Plus the extension will help Karnataka people to directly reach Sangli city. Former Karnataka chief minister had requested SWR and CR to extend some trains upto Sangli station to reduce the hardship faced by them to get down at Miraj and go 15-20km by road to Sangli.
