Passenger service in the Karur– Salem section likely after Pongal....S. Vijayakumaran, Chief Administrative Officer of the Construction Wing of Southern Railway, Chennai, inspected the progress of the ongoing signal and telecommunication works in the newly laid broad gauge track in the Salem–Karur section on Tuesday.
Mr. Vijayakumaran, accompanied by V. Thavamani Pandi, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem division and other top officials of Construction Wing and Salem division, travelled in an inspection coach from Salem to Karur this morning and inspected the visibility of signals.

yes it will save time also some sources said that 1000 lit of diesel would be save....
travel time of 30 mins and reversal time of 15 mins so totally close to an hour time can be saved-of course so many freights running so diesel too
