Disagree:Unwanted extension
Now that Ernakuam-Kottayam-Kayamkulam doubling is completed, Railways can extend 12677/12678 Bangalore-Ernakulam intercity to Trivandrum central or Kochuveli via kayamkulam, Kollam

In the past, GM-SR said that once doubling via kottayam is completed, path contraints would ease and long distance trains terminated @ERS ( due to path/terminal constraints towards south ) would be extended to TVC/KCVL.. Till date no long distance trains so terminated @ERS are extended to TVC even after doubling via Kottayam is complete and new terminal facilities came up @KCVL..

Agree
No more space in KCVL I think . Its saturated until Nemom is developed.

The only train that can be extended I see is Mangala Lakshadweep SF cause it stays in ERS yard for 24 hours.

When 12677/12678 was earlier running between CBE & SBC, only 1 rake was needed, hence it was called intercity. After extension to ERS, 2 rakes were provided and should be called Day express . Now further operating this service to TVC/KCVL is possible with present 2 rakes which means no additional rake neede!!

With ERS-Kottayam-Kayankulam doubling completed, path constraint to south is cleared now. With upgradation of KCVL going on in phases, I guess it is possible to operate 12677/12678 ERS-SBC Day express now to KCVL thereby additionally benefitting

Rake does not decide intercity. Number of rake does not matter. Intercity means it leaves from source and return back to source the same day , you are correct but its still intercity cause it leaves ERS at morning and cover to SBC before evening and vice versa.

There are lot of train already during that time from ERS to TVC ; And morning from TVC to ERS no extension needed. Snatching trains from CBE to ERS first of all is bad idea but during those time trains train to ERS from

My suggestion is for obtaining additional capacity to SBC/HSRA/SA/CBE from TVC/QLN/KTYM as there is no day train till date. New trains requested are pending for years. 12677/12678 extension from ERS to KCVL can be implemented easily by Railways as there is no additional rake requirement.

Extensions are quite common in Indian railways and no need to get paranoia about one particular train. For example, 11014 Bangalore-Mumbai LTT express was extended to Coimbatore few years back and rail passengers supported it.
