Kota when I journeyed there in 2003 was under WR with jurisdiction of WR Mumbai Hqrs stretching right up to outskirts of Mathura junction
Mighty Tuglakabad ELS was its pride and that time kota was heaven for speedier trains who almost always covered their delays and improved punctualities in this section
Many liveries came and went but that maroon liveried coaches and brown red painted RTM alco with yellow streak will always have a legendary place inside me forever

After taking meals from restaurants outside station named Sharma Bhojnalaya, I bought the general tickets for two and tugged in between the Concepts of Physics book by HC Verma and slept in the upper berths

Delayed by 2 hrs train reached Bina junction on22nd 21st march March 4pm
As soon asneighbours neighbour informed them about reaching Bina they got relaxed and assured that we would travel safely
Next3 2 days we were engaged in visiting coaching centers like Bansal classes, resonance, career point etc

Asking for excuse being students studyingot out of the state, my friend who was unaware that I had the tickets, persuaded him to let us go for 100 Rs

We were amused to hear the word Express, as that train has pretty bad impression in CG and is known as passenger there
I saw wap-5 for the first time at Bina outer
I thought how lucky those persons were who got a chance to travel in such a fast train

take coaching for entrance exams. I decided to take a trip to feel the ambience there.
On Thursday 20nd March 2003, we left for Kota through 8236 Bilaspur - Bhopal passenger cum Express at 6.45pm in the evening. We had reserved up to Bina in sleeper class in this train. For onward journey from Bina we had no reservation. We had brought Home food for dinner. Next day we crossed Katni (those days reversal occurred at Katni junction as bypass for Murwara was not present) around 9.15 am. Some tasteless Samosa at Ganeshganj/Patharia came handy as stations of that route /section did not have had much of eating options available. Lot of crowd was present in that train in Katni-Bina section.
Delayed by 2 hrs train reached Bina junction on 21st March 4pm. There we refreshed and had lunch at some dhaba outside the railway station (railway colony outskirts). I made a STD call to neighbour at Bilaspur home, as family members by then were in worrisome mode that how we two youths were travelling on our own out of the state. As soon as neighbour informed them about reaching Bina they got relaxed and assured that we would travel safely. After that we waited for our next connection 411 Bhopal Jodhpur passenger. It arrived by 9.15 pm led by RTM WDM 2. As soon as the train arrived we ran to grab upper wooden berths. We could snatch only one berth. I and my friend decided to take turns to sleep in it. I took window seat and tried hard to stay awake. But the cool breeze and oily dinner from dhaba made it hard. Train crossed CR and reached WR Ruthiyayi jn by 12.30 am. By 4am we were at Kota junction. Kota when I journeyed there in 2003 was under WR with jurisdiction of WR Mumbai Hqrs stretching right up to outskirts of Mathura junction. On Sunday also gave entrance test of Bansal classes at St. John school Bundi road. Pandals with TV sets and big screens had been prepared at many chowks to watch the match together. We packed bags and left station as India were on the verge of losing Final, courtesy deadly innings by Ricky Ponting.
Trains on the return journey were the same. We had no reservation till Bina. After taking meals from restaurants outside station named Sharma Bhojnalaya, I bought the general tickets for two and tugged in between the Concepts of Physics book by HC Verma and slept in the upper berths.
Early morning after Ashok Nagar TTE came checking for tickets. Somehow in deep sleep, I could not produce tickets. Asking for excuse being students studying out of the state, my friend who was unaware that I had the tickets, persuaded him to let us go for 100 Rs.
We reached Bina Junction. After getting fresh, we had light snacks. By 8.30 am announcements were done for Bhopal - Bilaspur Express. We were amused to hear the word Express, as that train has pretty bad impression in CG and is known as passenger there.
In Bina we were also joined by one of our female batch mate who was traveling with her parents to give entrance test of Bansal classes.
So lunch dinner in return journey were no issue for together of us as they had plenty of packed items and light snacks.

Indians toh Australia ke against historic finale ke liye tayyar ho rahe the Sourav Ganguly ki captaincy mein. Main IIT entrance ke liye JEE ka entrance exam ki taiyari kar raha tha. Doston ne mujhe kaha ki ek mauka lo aur Kota shift ho jao coaching ke liye. Maine wahan jaane ka decide kiya taaki environment ko mehsoos kar sakoon.
Thursday 20 March 2003 ko hum 8236 Bilaspur - Bhopal passenger cum Express se shaam 6.45 baje Kota ke liye nikle. Humne sleeper class mein Bina tak reservation kar rakhi thi. Bina se agle safar ke liye koi reservation nahi thi. Humare paas dinner ke liye ghar ka khana tha. Agle din humne Katni cross kiya (us waqt Katni junction par reversal hota tha kyunki Murwara ka bypass nahi tha) laga bhagyashali 9.15 am ke kareeb. Ganeshganj/Patharia par kuch bekar Samosa mila kyunki is route ke stations par khane ka koi option nahi tha. Katni-Bina section mein train mein bahut bheed thi.
Train 2 ghante deri se 21 March ko 4pm par Bina junction pahuchi. Wahan humne refresh hua aur kuch dhaba par lunch kiya jo railway station ke bahar tha (railway colony ke outskirts). Maine Bilaspur ghar par padosi ko STD call kiya, kyunki parivaar ke log tab pareshan the ki hum dono naujawan apne akele state se bahar kaise safar kar rahe hain. Jaise hi padosi ne unhein Bina pahunchne ki khabar di, unhein sukoon mil gaya aur unhone assurance diya ki hum surakshit safar karenge. Uske baad humne apni next connection 411 Bhopal Jodhpur passenger ka intezar kiya. Yeh 9.15 pm par RTM WDM 2 ke saath aayi. Jaise hi train ayi hum upar ke wooden berths pakadne ke liye bhaage. Hume sirf ek berth mili. Main aur mera dost decide kiya ki hum ismein turn le kar soenge. Maine window seat li aur jagne ki koshish ki. Lekin thandi hawa aur dhaba ka oily dinner bahut mushkil bana diya. Train CR cross karke 12.30 am par WR Ruthiyayi junction pahuchi. Subah 4 baje hum Kota junction par the. 2003 mein jab main wahan gaya tha toh Kota WR ke jurisdiction mein tha, jisse Mumbai Hqrs se lekar Mathura junction tak kaafi area cover hota tha. Badi Tuglakabad ELS iska gaurav tha aur uss waqt Kota tez trains ke liye ek swarg tha jo hamesha apni delays cover karti thi aur punctuality behtar hoti thi is section mein.
Agle 2 din humne coaching centers jaise Bansal classes, resonance, career point etc. visit kiya.

Ravivaar ko bhi Bansal classes ka entrance test diya St. John school Bundi road par. Kai chowkon par TV sets aur badi screens lagaakar match milke dekhne ka intezaam kiya gaya tha. Humne bags pack kiye aur station chhod diya kyunki India final haarne ke kinare par thi, Ricky Ponting ki deadly innings ki wajah se.
Wapas jaate waqt trains wahi thi. Bina tak koi reservation nahi thi. Station ke bahar Sharma Bhojnalaya se khana karke maine do general tickets li aur HC Verma ki Physics book ke beech so gya upper berths mein.
Subah jaldi Ashok Nagar TTE tickets check karne aaya. Kuch aise soye huye tha ki tickets nahi dikha paya. Chhutti maangte hue bola ki hum state se bahar padh rahe hain, mera dost jo nahi jaanta tha ki mere paas tickets hain, usne usse samjha diya ki hume 100 Rs. de kar jaane do.
Hum Bina Junction par pahunch gaye. Refresh hone ke baad humne halka sa snacks liya. 8.30 am par Bhopal - Bilaspur Express ki announcements hui. Humne 'Express' sun ke hasna shuru kar diya, kyunki wo train CG mein kaafi bura naam rakhti hai aur wahan passenger ke roop mein jaana jaata hai.
Bina par humari ek female batch mate bhi mil gayi jo apne maa-baap ke saath Bansal classes ke entrance test dene aa rahi thi.
Toh humare liye wapas ke safar mein lunch dinner ka koi issue nahi tha kyunki unke paas kaafi packed items aur halka snacks tha.
Maine Bina outer par pehli baar wap-5 dekha. Maine socha ki kitne lucky log hain jo aise fast trains mein safar karne ka mauka milta hai.
Subah 4 am ki train se hum Bilaspur Junction pahunch gaye. Aur is tareeke se meri pehli long journey khushgawar yaadon ke saath khatam hui.
Kai liveries aayi aur gayi lekin wo maroon liveried coaches aur brown red painted RTM alco jisme yellow streak hamesha mere andar ek legendary jagah banaaye rakhega.

I remember maroon coaches, teal wooden seats, and incandescent bulbs. And for some reason, a sticker on Barkakana/Gomoh based passenger coaches, हिन्दी हैं हम, वतन है हिन्दोस्तां हमारा।
I'm glad my childhood travel base was Mughalsarai. That way, I experienced almost every type of train, freights, and liveries to exist across Indian Railways.
