Electrification Of Tracks Threatens Survival Of Endangered Hoolock Gibbons In Assam

The electrification of railway tracks passing through the Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam has raised concerns about the survival of over 100 Hoolock Gibbons. These gibbons, India's only species, reside in the sanctuary along with Bengal slow lorises. While the electrification project is complete, experts are worried about the impact...

of 11,000 watts of electricity on the arboreal gibbons. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) planned canopy bridges to facilitate movement across the tracks, but experts doubt their effectiveness in ensuring the safety of the gibbons. The railway tracks, built in 1887, have acted as a barrier, dividing the sanctuary and isolating the gibbon population. experts ko 11,000 watts electricity ka gibbons par kya asar hoga, isse dar hai. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) ne canopy bridges banane ka plan banaya hai, taaki track cross karne mein aasani ho, par experts ko is baat par shak hai ki kya ye gibbons ko safe rakh payenge. 1887 mein banaya gaya railway track sanctuary ko divide kar diya tha, jisse gibbon population alag ho gayi thi. Par 2019 mein natural canopy bridge ban gaya, jisse 132 saal baad gibbons aapas mein connect ho paye.
