SLR at the end of the rake made the coaches count upto 25, which is the longest I have ever seen till date.
This train is one of the earliest superfast express' in the history of IR. The Eastern Coast of India along the Bay of Bengal is called the Coromandal Coast and hence the name was given to this train, as it traverses the entire length of Coromandal coast. The land of the Chola dynasty was called Cholamandalam in Tamil, literally translated as "the realm of the Cholas", from which Coromandal is derived. The Coromandal Coast is the name given to the southeastern coast of the Indian peninsula.
The train has CBC rakes, and has RSA (Rake Sharing Arrangement) with 12839/ 12840 Howrah (HWH)- Chennai Central (MAS) MADRAS Superfast Mail, which is India's first Express train to get a diesel loco (at that time, the other Express trains all over India used to run on Steam engine).
12839/ 12840 was introduced on August 15, 1900.
12841/ 12842 was introduced on March 6, 1977.
Both the trains follow the Howrah- Kharagpur- Balasore- Bhubaneshwar- Khurdah Road- Vishakapatnam- Vijaywada- Chennai Central route.
