RAILWAYS RELAX CONDITION OF PRODUCTION OF ORIGINAL PROOF OF IDENTITY DURING JOURNEY With effect from 15th January, 2013

Ministry of Railways has made some relaxation in the condition of production of originalProof of Identity during train travel and particularly for the passengers belonging to the lower economic classes.
Under this relaxation, attested photocopyof Ration Card with photograph and Nationalised Bank Passbook with photographs shall also be accepted as a prescribed proof of identity only in case of reserved tickets booked through computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, for undertaking journey in Sleeper (SL) and Second Reserved Sitting (2S) classes.The photocopy of the Ration Card with photograph and Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph should be attested by a Gazetted Officer or the Chief Reservation Supervisor or Station Manager/Station Master.This relaxation is not on other types of proofs of identity cards where o­nly original proof will be required during journey.
The above provision is not applicable for all classes of e-tickets and Tatkal tickets and tickets issued through PRS counter for travelling in Air-conditioned classes and First Class.Travelling with these categories of tickets shall continue to be governed by existing instructions.
This provision shall be made effective from 15.1.2013

how will it effect the economy backward? you have to have ration/bank account in either ways...just that instead of original a photocopy would be allowed...not all have ration/bank account...believe me...till date...i dont have passport/voter id/driving licencse/govt.inst.id card/pan card/aadhaar card/ration card...just a passbook is serving the purpose...

maybe not economically challenged, but we have two other ways of proving our ID, thereby reducing the chances of losing valuable docs like the original ration card during travel. My grandma lost her pension passbook and we are now running from pillar to post over the past two years to get a duplicate, but to no avail.

i think sir if this news is true then it will be more benifuted suppose i forget my original id then i will told my bro to scan original copy and send me by email then i will take printout of that scan copy .now thats it ............. i can travel with photocopy................................
