SCCI general secretary Vijay Anand Moonka, who along with four members left for the national capital on Thursday, said president R.K. Agarwal, who is in New Delhi now, will join the delegation.
He pointed out that a train to Jodhpur was a long-pending demand. "In the absence of direct rail links to Jaipur and Jodhpur, frequent visitors to Rajasthan are affected."
He also said that growing medical and academic needs prompted a large section of people from the city and Kolhan to go to Hyderabad. "Without direct train services, they suffer," he said.
A new superfast train between Tatanagar and Nagpur also finds place on the list.
Currently, almost all trains going to Nagpur via Tatanagar take the Howrah-Mumbai main route. So, despite the privilege of booking tickets four months in advance, the waiting lists continue to be long. A superfast train, the SCCI insists, will ease the rush.
Another important issue likely to figure at the meeting is renovation of Adityapur and Govindpur stations. "Keeping in mind the increasing pressure on Tatanagar, the railways should consider revamp of these stations with ample passenger amenities. Some trains can also originate there too," said an SCCI functionary.
The SCCI demands also include pantry car in long distance trains like Tatanagar-Yeshwantpur Express, Tatanagar-Jallianwallah Bagh Express and Tata-Patna Durg South Bihar Express, besides toilets on platform Nos. 2,3,4 and 5 at Tatanagar.
